panel adhesive.......

Post by 6sally6 » Sun Dec 29, 2013 11:22 pm

Put in the search block and got zero info.
Need to re-skin rear quarters on a 66 Mustang. Friend of mine recommended using adhesive in stead of welding. No warp...let grinding...less filler...less time...less chance of rust return because of welding and burning away paint...
Anybody tried it......instead of welding a lap joint?

Used to be they didn't recommend panel adhesive on stressed body panels, which would describe the rear quarters of a unibody Mustang. Maybe things have changed since then ?

Try this stuff.

It's stronger than "unobtainium".

3M Panel adhesive is a very good product but in order for it to work properly you must have very tight tolerances when you pre fit the quarter .If you are using repro parts the fitting will take you a long time and likely not be close enough we are talking millimetres only .As I have been restoring Shelby's and mustangs for 30 years even with NOS or original parts proper cleaning of mating surfaces and welding is your best way to go.
