Back in my old, old, poor race times, I had a recipe using brake fluid and lacquer thinner to bring back old slicks. Used cookie sheets and went around the circumference of the tire letting them sit for about 4 hours. At that time, I was only going 11.20's so it probably didn't matter much, but the tires did look better. Got in a lot of trouble for using those cookie sheets. :)

I will always remember the method used by my black street racing bros one night 30 years ago,for some big bucks. No joke, true story. When the hoods car was ready for its burnout, two "crew members" took out there tools and pissed under each rear tire. The car hooked hard and took home the money, smelled bad though. Peewee could vouch for this story. Phil D.

First, this is NOT a recommendation. There are several products out there for tire softening. One of the popular types is a compound for softening the rubber rollers on printing presses. Here is a link for it:

You will also find several products that are marketed specifically for tire softening. Just google "tire softening compound".
