There are some dirt tracks here in the US that require pavement take-offs for their track tires. Seems to work OK on a limited HP deal.
Last place in the B-main is better than anyplace in the grandstands...

Thank god someone replied!.... not that your just ' someone ' Kroozer

I just didn't know if the bloody things would melt off the rims, these races are sprint type that last 4 odd minutes, so I'm thinking they should last

Rim width, .... would you run the rim = to the tyre or tread width ?
Are dirt compounds way softer than pavement ? ... I know that dirt looks mighty hard by the end of a 50 lap midget feature.

The Hoosier tire site will give you plenty of info if you have the tire model # available.

The Hoosier tires we run on dirt are pretty hard… I think they have a durometer reading in the mid-50's IIRC. The rubber compounds vary from a dirt to an asphalt tire… lots of different tech going on there. A call to your Hoosier distributor should also help you a bit.
