1st Gen. 1.5" taller upper ball joint, stock type spindles.

Post by pdq67 » Fri Jan 23, 2015 5:30 pm

Where can I buy them IF they are even made?

Or do I have to take the four forged stock spindles I have now and cut and weld to create them?

Check with Howe Racing or QA-1. The both make rebuild-able ball joints for racing. You can get different stud lengths for each of their ball joints

Back again..

"Or do I have to take the four forged stock spindles I have now and cut and weld to create them?"..

If I cut my four spindles to make what I want, then who does anybody recommend that I get to weld them back together.

Plus, test for soundness so they are safe to use after being welded back together?

Stock '67 Camaro that I want to raise the front roll center on.

Right now I have Pro-Motorsports 2-15/16" tall spindle extenders on it. David P. say's I'm probably too high is why I am looking into this.

Springs are 5536's that I "clock-cut" a 1/4 coil off the bottoms and then cut a complete coil off each again.

Front sway-bar is parallel with the ground.

If I can do this, I probably will figure out how to install 11" drums on the front like was installed on the 1965, Z-16 Chevelle. Then put 11" rear drums on.

I believe these are what you are looking for.

There may be cheaper spindles out there but few vendors beat on their products like Ridetech does.

Like those except I don't want 2" dropped.

Several companies are selling these, but they are all 2" dropped that I have looked at.

I missed that. I have seen pictures of what you are looking for but don't have a clue who makes (or made)
them. I'm guessing you have already asked Dave if he could point you in the right direction. If you are unable
to find the right spindle then you may have to resort to using a pair of Howe upper joints. Get the rebuildable
units and you can pick and choose from the different lengths of ball studs. As you increase the ball stud length
you get to the point where you should change the upper arms for something made to accommodate the longer
ball joint, but I'm guessing you already know that.
There is the Guldstrand mod that has a similar effect as increasing your spindle height.

Was just looking at SC&C's fully adjustable 1st Gen. upper A-Arms.

If I don't mess with 11" drum brakes, I will just make a couple of homemade big, single piston caliper brackets that fit my 1988 'Vette 13" front rotors I have on my car now. Hunt up my "pdqCBB" front and rear disc brake conversion I came up with to do it on the cheap.

Probably be impossible to get a certified welder/heat-treater to take my (4) 1st Gen forged front spindles and make (2) that have their upper ball-joints raised 1.5"..

If you search some circle track suppliers like Howe Racing or Lefthander Chassis, Coleman Racing Products you will find adjustable ball joints in
many styles.
