FWD ladder mount strength with diagonal link?

Post by forcefed86 »

When using a diagonal link to center the rear, do the FWD ladder mounts need to be strong enough to handle heavy side loads? My FWD mounts seem really flimsy. 1/8th inch mild steel i'm guessing. (chassis engineering ladder kit) I can see them flex side-to-side just having someone rock the bumper hard. (Also using the lowest mount so it amplifies the problem.)

Lost a drive shaft recently and it smacked the D-link and bent the ladder mount. I have since straightened, re-welded, added a gusset to both sides, and a little boxed portion on the top front and back. Still seems flimsy. I use to run a panhard bar so there was no side loading on these brackets. Is there usually not any side load to worry about? Am I just being paranoid?
