Removing spindle/a-arm travel stops

Post by BOOT »

Ok no steering expert but how bad of an idea is it to trim the spindle down or remove the pads it hits on a oem a-arm?

Do rack & pinion set-ups have the same stops or is it just a steering box thing?

Do tubular lower a-arms even have the stops?

You know why

The stops are there for a reason. Often, it's not the absolute limit of the steering possibility, but to prevent the OEM tire/wheel from hitting the bodywork.

To give any meaningful advice we'd have to know the front clip info, body and any modifications thereto.

Good point, I imagine a lot of car with narrow front runners don't have an issue after trimming or if the tubular ones don't have them.

I removed that stop from my spindles on my 72 camaro because the rear tube on the tubular control arms I was using only allowed for about 20° movement to each side before it hit the tube . I had to make a 3 point turn to get lined up in the groove when turning 90° from the staging lanes into the near lane of the burnout box .(only happened one week before removing them). Had no issues with anything else but it is a track only car. Dan
