tire and wheel fitment

Post by rsnova »

I have a 72 nova with a 29 x 10 hoosier slick on an 8.5 rim with a 4 7/8 back spacing.My question is what how will it effect the slick on a 10" rim with a 5'" backspacing?Will the rim pull the section width out more towards the quarter panel or with less section width will the tire still fit under the car?Thanks for your help guys.

We are talking about theoretical dimensions becuase I do not think anyone is making wheels in these dimensions. Actually I am also questioning your original 8 1/2 wheel. Are you positive it is not an 8 inch wheel?

Moving downward from what you want;

A 9 inch wheel would equal a 4 1/2 back space
A 8 1/2 inch wheel would equal a 4 1/4 inch back space.

So if you are moving from a 8 1/2 inch with a 4 7/8 back space it would equal a 10 inch wheel with a 5 5/8 backspace.

Moving up from what you have;
9 1/2 equals a 5 3/8 backspace
10 equals a 5 5/8 inch backspace to put tire at exactly the same place as the 8 1/2 with the 4 7/8 bacspace.
