It's a picture of an elderly couple standing close together by what looks like their new '54 Chevy.
The, "drive-way", consists of two 14" or 16" wide strips of concrete the tires ride on beside their house.
Now this was back before the working class had money for full-width poured concrete drive-ways and I have seen them like this in the center neighborhoods of towns along side the big old houses.
You know, houses with a full basement, 1st and 2nd floors, and finally a full attic.. Most have a great big full-width front porch on them.. And a little Model A Ford single bay garage at the end of the two strips.

The 2 strip driveways have the advantage of no visible oil drips.............
