th350 - Looks like I'm panning for gold!

Post by BOOT » Sat Jul 18, 2015 11:23 am

Just dropped my pan on a th350 for a filter and fluid change and found this.

Of all the pans I've had off I've seen maybe one to three flakes at most, well I just struck it rich! The car shifted and drove fine, fluid wasn't even bad really. I just decided to do some preventative maintenance and try to keep the car more consistent in the heat. The flakes are magnetic and I'm no trans expert but it looks like I just saved me a tow bill.

Also the filter had about the same amount of garbage but not as bad as all the pics I've found looking at other post online. I've already got another trans built for this reason I'm just not very trans knowledgeable. I've always herd the fine grey sludge is normal wear and other fine shavings. I'm just wondering how bad this is gonna be as I'd like to have this one built into my back up trans. The converter is nothing special so that can be trashed easy and I'll flush the radiator cooler, but toss the external.

I've seen a lot worse run a long time.

The cooler in most radiators is far worse for retaining garbage from transmission failures than most aftermarket stand alone coolers. Although the stacked plate aftermarket coolers are hard to clean. The coolers that have tubes running through fins clean relatively easily.

Drag racing or just daily driving?
