Short shift Camaro V6 T-5

Post by Caprimaniac » Thu Jul 23, 2015 7:23 am

Hi, all.

Need advice here.... Put a t5 from a Camaro v6 behind a FORD v6. The trans/ engine- package seem to be mounted tilted in the Camaro ? Trans to member mount is tilted, therefore suspekt so....

HURST has a short shift for this trans. However, expect it to be straight up regarding to the Camaro body. and therefore need welding/tilting in ny application.

Have seen beat- lisings of shifters made w/ HURST basis and a tilted shifter supposedly ro a trans- swap like ths. I'd love if someone cold post up links to shifters that will fit straight info mye application.

Stock shifter has very long throw, and need a fix.
Thanks!

Not suspekt. :D Just ergonomically ideal in a lot of GM platform cars.

You can disassemble and straighten the stub in some shifters for straight -up use. Maybe reverse the stub so it points driver side and fab a stick to match.

Or, S10 shifter which is quicker ratio (for a really long stick.)

Hope somone can answer this...

In the Camaro forums I found a thread on this subject.

It was said that the FORD T-5 shifter does share two of the bolt holes With the GM T5.
You can use a FORD T-5 shifter on a GM T-5 by simply drilling two New holes.... IS THIS TRUE?

I was going With a Hurst shifter for the Camaro, but unfortunately, it is no longer available....

Thanks
RS

Core Shifters offers a new Camaro T5 shifter base.

Yes, if the 4-bolt hole pattern is added to the Mustang shifter, it could work.

Thanks, Chev.

Yes, I think I have seen "Core shifters" on ebay, so it's a Company? I thought it was the name of what was done to the shifters.
I searched ebay at a later time and couldn't find them then.

I will try using a Mustang T-5 shifter.

Thanks again

UPDATE! Re: Short shift Camaro V6 T-5

Just got the Ford T-5 shifter installed, completely...

First off: The rear holes fit. However, I figured they were off by 1/8 - 1/16" and elongated the holes some.

Holes in the front drilled, but as usual I didn't have the right Tools at hand and holes were off... 1/2 hour extra work,

This Works 100%, so thanks for the tip.

I kept the length of the top plate unchanged, which meant I had to cut a larger hole in the gear tunnel. (Figured that out as every turning & quenching sound in the gearboxgot transmitted to the body as top plate hit the tunnel.... You probably know what I mean...)
Kept it like that since I have 2 other Ford T-5's, and you never know if you need a quickshift....
