Canned Transmisssion Rebuild Worked!

Post by Krooser » Thu Aug 13, 2015 3:49 am

Ok it was actually in a bottle…

The wifes '90 Park Avenue started a nasty torque convertor shudder a few weeks ago (124K) . I added a bottle of Lucas trans additive and presto! no more shudder. The very nextday the trans in my '97 Ram refused to make a normal 1-2 shift (248K). I either had to lift the throttle and wait or shift into neutral then back to drive to get it to shift. One more bottle of Lucas and about 200 miles and it appears the shifting is back to normal.

I had flushed both of these transmissions in the last two years right after I bought each vehicle. I guess a fresh filter and some new fluid might not hurt either one at this point.

Gotta love it when a plan comes together. Not quite the same, but .....

My current crew bus came at the right money, but with a recalcitrant manual five spd 'box, even though it had six marked on the stick, and trying to find the other gears was a bit like stirring concrete. Dropped the 80/90w out and filled with ATF, and repeat.

All the gears, and synchros that grab, though obviously beating second is easy. Two and a half years and 20k later the spare 'box I've built up is yet to go in.

I lost hi-gear in a T-bird. One can of Lucas and a complete trans rebuild and it was good as new. I hate you both.

The Lucas power steering product performed a miracle on my old Volvo leaky rack and pinion. Went from leaving a visible trail after backing out of parking places etc, and needing fluid every week to needing fluid maybe every 6 months.

I doubt it would have helped my buddy's 76 Vette whose hoses were toasted.

Well the Buick's trans shudder seems to be on it's way back…. time for a fluid and filter change I guess.
