9" ford 3.50 gear pattern???

Post by Chipped tooth » Wed Jan 06, 2016 6:10 pm

I went to help a friend swap 3.00 to 3.50 gears in his car and came up with a coast pattern I haven't seen before....
Pinion need more shim? Or did he get a set of bad gears?
Gears were purchased years ago, no information on box as what brand they are.

Looking for advice from someone who does this all the time.

Drive looks a little high but not much. How much backlash is it set up with?

I've had to do some questionable things and I've never gone wrong with focusing on the drive side and letting coast fall where it may, if that was the only option. So first, what is the backlash?

I had him get a better set of shims, backlash was at .006 in the pic

We got it the best with a .012 pinion support shim though I didn't take a picture....

She's smooth as silk so I'd say we got her!

Thanks for the help though!
