How will taller tyres effect my 1/4 mile times

Post by maca » Wed Mar 30, 2016 6:01 am

Hey all
I am struggling to get traction on my street tyres as I expected. They are 245x60x14 BF Goodrich
With these tyres and 3-5 rear ratio I cross the line in top gear at 6000rpm which is about where I want to be.
I have been offered some Mickey Thompson ETs on rims ready to go but they are around 2-5 inches bigger. They are 275x60x15
How will this effect my 1/4 mile runs. I used an online calculator which says I will cross the line at around 500 rpm lower. I will be chasing more HP soon but for now I am wondering apart from the lower rpm how will it effect my times. I am thinking slower!
Thanks Maca

I'm expecting others to pose questions (and then answers) about mph, ET, 60 foot time, and where your HP peak might be.

I was thinking my times may be around the same as being able to stick the take off will make me quicker but crossing the line 500 rpm lower may make me slower so it might even out
I don't know a lot about tyre size v drags etc

Youre correct. It'll lower your rpm about 500.
I'd do it though, cos in drag racing traction is everything.
You can always wear them out then go to a 26" tire.
