1.80 v 1.69 first gear in powerglide

Post by down under 383 » Sat May 21, 2016 4:35 am

Hi i have got a 400 sbc making 1050 at the fly aspirated , 2600 pounds ladder bar car with a 295 / 60 mt radial tyre. 4.3 gear in rear . So do u think i should use a 1.69 first gear as it wil show less drop on the gear change and be less aggressive on the hit or should i use a 1.80 to get it out off the hole

I would think you want the smaller spread between ratios, I have always gone faster with less gear with decent power engines in every type of racing I have been involved with, circle track and straight line. JMHO

I went with a 1.68 low and geared the car for finish line rpm. The 1.69 will stay on the converter a little longer. I believe witch ever way you go will work.
