Heating trans or diff before a run

Post by jacksoni » Mon Aug 29, 2016 8:28 am

Is there any value in heating the oil in transmission and/or differential before a run (drag, road race, lsr)? I think Nascar may for qualifying? How hot?

A sprag in a converter will sometimes respond to heated fluid.
Found this out on a bracket car that would not run consistent numbers & was not predictable.
It ran all over the place after cool down between rounds and between warm afternoon and cooler nights .
Went to a spragless converter and it would print numbers.
A lot of Comp racers heat the fluids.
If there was nothing there would they do it?
Be careful to heat, not boil.

Thanks, Adger. This past Bonneville I was running within .5mph of the record (sometimes over, sometimes under) and we are looking for any little bit to help. I am going to try this as well, perhaps, some superlight weight oils (that hopefully will still protect things.)
