Ford 351c bellhousing/flywheel to 351w

I've looked around the web and haven't found a sure awnser, will a 351c bellhousing and flywheel bolt directly up with a 351w (formerly an auto trans so i assume the flywheel has to go)? This is assuming the clutch is trans spefic not motor, if I am wrong here same question goes for the clutch. Got a little revive project going that calls for a manual trans, found a three speed cheap but I need to know if (or what) Cleveland parts are going to work here. I was reading elsewhere that a c4 bellhousing is what will be needed for the transpant. Just need reassurance before i buy anything.

The 351C bell and flywheel will bolt up to the W engines. For stick you need the stick bell, the C4 bell won't work.

For the clutch, have to match the pressure plate pattern to the flywheel (usually 10-1/2" Long). The disc spline for most Ford cars is 1-1/16"× 10.

Just as an FYI:

The 351M uses a *different* bolt pattern than the 351C and 351W. It shares the same pattern as the 429/460 big blocks.


Though the 351M and 400 were basically the same engine (only part of the rotating assembly was different, and Ford used the same emissions sticker "351M/400" for both of them) *some* engines came with a unique block with the 351C/W bolt pattern inside a "shadow" (outline, but no bolt bosses) big block pattern. Those seemed to be found mostly with FMX transmissions. As far as I've been able to determine, all of the "FMX blocks" had 400 rotating assemblies, but it's not easy to tell a 351M from a 400 without pulling the pan and looking for the "5M" casting number on the crank.

As to why Ford chose to cast a different engine block instead of a different bellhousing... well, it's Ford. It's how they roll.
