Transbrake or not

Post by oldhead » Mon Jan 01, 2018 12:56 pm

Do you go faster with a transbrake or not ? I know they help make the car more consistent ,I know they don't load the Rear suspension,BUT DO THEY MAKE THE CAR FASTER?I would think no :) :) :) :) Oldhead PS: Do they cause more breakage ? I would think yes
Quicker then most

they make racing alot more fun! I've had one for 2 seasons now and not broken anything running around 9.90 with a 3400 pound car.

On out SB Chevy race car, the transbrake is not faster. It does let you cut better lights though. Our car can run 8.50 to 8.50 E T 's Our best times are a few hundredths quicker without the trans brake

My car ran exactly the same time leaving at the same RPM, footbraking as it did with the transbrake. Had absolutely no breakage with the transbrake so far.

If you build two automatic transmissions, one designed to run with a transbrake, and one designed to run without, the one without will almost always ET better, provided the chassis and suspension are good, and well sorted out. The transbrake will only be faster if the car has to be shocked to make it work. The reason being that you can run lower pressure, lower volume, and in some cases lighter parts, and with fewer frictions when not running a transbrake.

If you simply swap valvebodies in an otherwise identical transmission, you may see little or no difference in ET.

Joe are you using a 2 step with the brake or just running it to the mat and letting go at locked stall speed?

The transbrake with a 2 step gives you another way to tune for track and weather conditions.

We run our best using the two step- we used to do full throttle om the t brake, but it runs faster with the 2 step

I have seen cases where it helps the ET and other where it doesn't.

I have found in our car which is a '96 Mustang with a 304" Carbed 2V with Nitrous... We have a 5500ish stall. We have the Nitrous wired to come on with the release of the transbrake. If we set the two step up at 3800-4200 the car will run faster compared to leaving at say 5300.. we sometimes change the two step rpm based off how well the track is working... We cut consistent 1.19's in the 60'.

It all depends on your combo as too how well it works
. We run .400 Pro-Tree stuff so it's a must for us...

I never bothered to footbrake once I stepped up to a transbrake, but fwiw, every time I raised the 2 step the car went quicker everywhere on the time slip. 6000converter, low 10 sec car.

99.9999999999999999% of the time it won't do anything for et. But it will help with consistency on launch, whether you bottom bulb or use a delay box. With a brake and a two step you can better control what's happening on the starting line with your car, and that's where the consistency comes in. If you launch at the same rpm every time, it helps to eliminate driver error. They aren't a cure all, but after racing both with and without one, I'll never race without one again. It's just a tool to a racer to help you become a better racer. It's how you take advantage of it that becomes the benefit....

My 60' is .1 slower on the foot brake and the engine hates it. Leave on the brake and go low 30's every time. Last time out we went 9.62 off the trailer then 9.62 9.61 9.60 and finally 9.59. Off the brake is 6800. Off the foot is 4500 Max and the engine stumbles a split second. I do not use a 2 step just floor at the yellow and go.
