POWERGLIDE 1.76 VS 1.82

Which gear set will be stronger from a stock trans. I am building a powerglide to drag race with. My ride is 2840 with me in it. I am running a 355 at 585 hp, th 400 with a brake, 9 in ford rear with 5.29 gears. I want to go to a glide and brake. Is the 1.76 stronger for this?

The 1.76 gearset is stronger. The performance difference between the two is neglegible. If using a stock gearset I suggest that the pins are replaced and all clearances are checked/set. If the trans is put together correctly, it can last quite a while in your application.
