Don't forget the ground path. My 460 Ford powered Maverick had to have a 0 gauge cable from the negative side to the starter mount bolt. Had it grounded to the body at the rear shackel, transmission cross member and frame. Without the ground cable I could not get it to crank fast when it was hot. Used 00 welding cable for the plus side.

Also when measuring the voltage drop with an analog meter watch for magnetic fields from the cranking current moving the needle.
