Book Recommendations for a beginner?

I am relatively new to building up cars and need to build up my knowledge. I know a fair share about building a LS engine but that's about it. I need recommendations to read for everything from body/chassis, engine building, to fabricating. I'm mainly interested in road racing but any recommendations are very much welcome.

Try building a racing kart from scratch. Less expensive and complicated than stuffing a whole new drivetrain into a 944 shell as a beginning project. Maybe put that to the side for a while.
I am sure a lot of people here have raced karts and could guide you with literature selections.

As a starting point, I would recommend the series by Carrol Smith.
They are titled:
Tune to Win
Prepare to Win
Engineer to Win
Drive to Win.
They are easy to read and do not contain heavy lifting of mathematics.
After the Smith series of books are well digested, I would recommend:
John Heywood on engines
John Dixon on shocks
Robt Norton on cams
Bill Milliken on suspensions
Joe katz on aerodynamics
