Seatbelt install

Post by Len »

just got new seat belts and IHRA doesn't allow y type shoulder belts anymore. I was wondering if it is legal to wrap the belts around the cross bar rather than have to weld 2 new tabs??? I would think it would actually be safer as the strap would not have to pass over relatively sharp edges on the mounting clips.

Current NASCAR( top five divisions) rules require that the shoulder belts be installed by wrapping around a tube rather than being bolted to a tab.

I don't know what IHRA inspectors want to see, maybe give them a call.

NHRA requires seatbelts to be securely fastened to the frame, crossmember, or reinforced mounting so that all fittings are in a direct line with the direction of pull. Seatbelts not to be wrapped around lower frame rails.
