Two stroke carb adapter.

I have a two stroke 30cc trimmer motor on a bicycle that I'm hopping up with a 35cc chainsaw carb. The new carb has a throat of 16mm, the stock throat was 13mm. The original plastic adapter doesn't have enough meat to hog out without reaching fresh air. So, I need to carve a new adapter.
What material would be cheap and readily available that I can make a new heat insulative reliable adapter from?
I tried walnut once as a spacer on a TBI, and it cracked. Should I just epoxy the stock adapter and then just hog away?
