Re: Crazy old terminology and parts
Full port and polish.
stages of anything, porting, cams, turbos...
The sad thing is, people still try to use these term as if they mean something.
It's only going to get worse as the 'bolt-on generation' grow up.

when i was a kid and just starting out , you had to have things like racer brown cams and heads , isky rpm 300 and revmaster cams and the 505t cams , sig erson hi flow cams , crane fireball cams and heads and the hi lo no pop roller cams , battleship valve springs and 4.10 gears were in everything fast . i still get people in asking for crowLer cams and for old time car shows you cant beat a piston shifter knob , fuzzy dice and the blue sex lights

Cool post!!
These are from "little deuce coupe" - Beach Boys song
....But I've got the fastest set of wheels in town
...Just a little deuce coupe with a flat head mill
But she'll walk a Thunderbird like (she's) it's standin' still
She's ported and relieved and she's stroked and bored.
She'll do a hundred and forty with the top end floored......
......She's got a competition clutch with the four on the floor
And she purrs like a kitten till the lake pipes roar
And if that aint enough to make you flip your lid
There's one more thing, I got the pink slip daddy.....
What the h___ is a Pink slip daddy???

Short for ‘Daddy-O’. “I got the pink slip, Daddy-O” = “I have the title, Dude” in current jargon, or in more distinguished society, “I own the car free and clear, Sir”.BrazilianZ28Camaro wrote:Cool post!!

Re: Crazy old terminology and parts
I'm at a local car cruise night with my friend and his '69 Firebird.
A 20ish kid proclaims "nice car it's got a 4 banger in it". My friend assures him the Firebird has a Pontiac 400 V8, but the kid insists it's a got a "4 banger". We finally figure what he is talking about when he points to the Hurst shifter "where you bang the four gears".

Automotive Machining, cylinder head rebuilding, engine building. Can't seem to quit
Re: Crazy old terminology and parts
Or the old " my car was so fast, I gave guys 2:1 odds on their bets and never lost a race".
Somewhere there is a table at a diner with five guys who all knew each other in the old days but who each never lost a race. They all probably pulled wheelies on 7" polys too.
Hell, even I lost a street race ONCE with my V8 Vega...my fuel pump crapped. I'll forget about that in a few more years though. It's a damn good thing I never brought that car to the track...the stories would not have played out so well.

iMput for input
"All M22's are turbo 400 output" (False, but even Hurst puts this out there)
"I bought this here Rockcrusher" "Its a T10 sir" "No it aint, my best buddy/brother/dead father told me its a rockcrusher"
Same as above with a Saginaw 4speed
"poverty caps" "piepans" "dog dish" hubcaps
Tuner kids think an Intake is a piece of PVC with a K&N stuck on the end of it.
"Naws"...
Every 4 banger with a giant wing, bad paint and stickers is a 10 second car

Then there is "The Leaning Tower of Power" (Mother Mopar's slant six).

Another name for the slant six- Hillside Hemi
How about the "sock motor". (ford sohc)

Re: Crazy old terminology and parts
Seems like at least once a week we get someone in that thinks he has Vortec heads because they are center bolt valve covers.
Had a guy that once tried to convince me that his 2 cyl Harley was making 500+ HP at 2500 RPM.
What I really get a kick out of are the kids that claim they are making over 1500 HP from their 4 cylinder by porting the head themselves and adding a mail order turbo...... And they still have the stock bottom end.

A punk kid called once and asked if he installed a fully ported head, cams and a big turbo on his Nissan something-or-another, would it make 1200hp?
My response; "yes...briefly"
