Ingersoll Rand Type 30 Model 242 ???

Hello everyone, I have an odd question that hopefully someone has run into at some point in time.
I just purchased a used compressor assembly that runs fine, however, I would like to go through it to prevent any future problems.
It has the IR Type 30 Model 242 compressor head which seems to be a very common unit.
While looking up some of the parts for this thing I noticed there are two types of rods offered, a standard aluminum rod, and an optional bronze rod.
Can anyone educate me on the better rod to use and why?
Thanks, CJ
