Award Winner of the Body Basher Award at Billetproof Florida

Body:
Original Ford 2 door Sedan steel body highly modified
Body shortened 15”, chopped 4 ¼”, molded in windshield, quarter and rear glass.
Body lines removed that go up behind the rear quarter windows and around the top of the body, as well as the lower body lines at the lower edge.
Side body lines made 100% going around the middle of the body.
Custom rolled steel roof to complement the body shape, with drilled visor molded in.
Tail lights are 2- 1937 Ford mounted on the sides of the body and a 1930 Model A in the original location with license plate light and bracket.
Rear gas door molded into the body to fuel the custom 17 gallon aluminum gas tank.
Door latches are safety latches from the Rocky Hinge Company.
Custom door rear view mirror mounts.
All side safety glass is the green tint, and the windshield is clear.
Custom grill shell made to complement the body design and the custom carburetor scoop.
Inside the grill is a custom made AFCO aluminum radiator with Spal fan in a shroud, and a one of a kind custom piston radiator cap.
Headlights are original Guide lights modified to provide parking and turn lights on the top and have Halogen head light bulbs installed behind the new lenses.
Custom Metal Flake paint done with PPG materials and Roth Flakes


Interior:
Custom designed for that sit ‘into’ feel like a sports car, custom dash with early sports car designs mixed with original Model A that has all electronic Stewart Warner gauges. Customized TCI shifter with a custom cover makes selecting gears easy and smooth.
Plenty of room inside to accommodate drivers up to 6’5” comfortably.
Rear square roll bar, access panels/doors to the battery, fuel pumps and filter, as well as the gas tank. Comfort supplied by Classic Auto Air and Heat, and tunes are supplied by a Panasonic AM/FM/CD/MP3 system.
Wiring system is from American Autowire, with under dash interior night lighting and a 12 volt accessory port to operate your GPS or charge your cell phone.
Steering column is the dash mount tilt system by Flaming River, with a Superior chrome and white steering wheel.
Custom designed under dash master cylinder / brake pedal system.
Custom bucket seats, retractable seat belts, and interior done in durable vinyl pleats.


Chassis:
Custom designed and fabricated chassis made from 2” X 3” .125 wall steel for the main frame rails, with a triangulated K-member that ties the high torque Buck Nailhead into the 120” wheel base chassis. Triangulated cross members throughout provide a rigid chassis platform to control the custom 2-link rear suspension system that has a complete Moser Ford 9” rear drum brake axle assembly with a Detroit Tru Trac posi unit, 3.00 Richmond gears, and AFCO aluminum coil over shocks and springs.
A bolt in rear chassis subframe installs the custom aluminum 17 gallon gas tank, and ties into the square roll bar.
Fuel is supplied by 2 Carter P4600HP fuel pumps, one is the primary pump, and the other is the secondary pump if needed. Fuel is filtered by a Fram canister filter and all fuel lines are stainless steel braided Russell with AN fittings.
The front axle is a Magnum 4” dropped I-Beam that was custom drilled, the Hair pins are custom made, and both are painted with Roth Silver Metal Flake. The front spring is a Durant Mono-Leaf, and the front brakes are disc, and steering is done by a new Corvair reserved steering box.
The front of the chassis curves to complement the custom grill shell and the front spring perch is a 3 rib design to complement the ribs in the original Buick aluminum valve covers.
The front wheels are ET III custom 10 spoke polished aluminum 15 x 4 ½” with 145R-15” tires.
The rear wheels are Custom made 15 X 8” Supremes, with Radir 8.20 X 15 cheater slicks.


Engine and Transmission:
Custom built 1965 Buick 401 Nailhead by Mr. Joe Mondello now displaces 407 C.I.D.
Every component was magnafluxed, trued, polished, blueprinted and balanced. Joe ported and polished the cylinder heads, made custom length swirl polished valves, valve springs and retainers, and it has custom aluminum roller rocker arms made by Tom Telesco, and Bullet Cams designed the custom camshaft. The intake manifold is an Eelco dual quad fitted with a pair of Carter 500 CFM carbs that have been modified by Specialty Performance Engineering. A custom designed air filter system mounts to the carbs and supports the old Surfer designed dragster scoop.
Exhaust is spent through custom 1/ ¾” primary tube headers that are Ceramic Coated inside and out, back through a custom exhaust system that has internal spiral mufflers.
Ignition is triggered by a Crane, and operated by a complete electronic Jacobs’s computer system. The starter is a custom built high torque mini starter designed and made by Tom Telesco.
The engine was Dyno Tuned by Joe Mondello on his dyno.
A Bendtsen Transmission adaptor system was fully balanced by Joe Mondello was used to connect the Buick Nailhead to a GM Turbo 400 that was built by TCI, as well as the custom TCI torque converter designed to control the torque, yet provide smooth gear engagement.
The custom drive shaft was made by PST.
