Generally, the higher the P/E ratio, the further the stock price will drop when the company misses earnings expectations. Most stocks have been climbing in p/e since 2009, but are still a lot lower than they were in the 10 years preceding. So, how much do you think stocks will drop if the market crashes? 20-30%? Right now 3M is trading around $141/share, which is up 60% from 2 years ago. Thats not including the annual dividend on 2.4%. And it was cheaper yet in 2009. I just don't see any way to lose money on that investment.
3M stock trading around $167/share as of today...earnings projected to grow 12% over the next year.

More records set...

At about 1:30 p.m. ET, the Dow Jones industrial average, which was down more than 100 points earlier in the session, was up nearly 110 points, or 0.4%, to 18,096.11, or 32 points above its Dec. 26 record close of 18,053.71.

I forgot about this thread...just checked 3M and it’s trading at $221.32/share as of Friday, overvalued by at least 30% I’d say, judging by the mediocre earnings growth over the last several years. Actually, it looks like most of the blue chips are overvalued. Now might be the time to start thinking about the next stock market correction.

It's kind of funny reading back through the early posts to see how the trumpettes reacted to the booming market compared to how they feel now....

The only effect the pres has on the economy is to set an atmosFEAR that cause business to pull back or an ATMOSTfear that causes business to open up.
It is no different then the left praising Bill Clinton for the boom under his pres and blaming Bush for the cash under his! They are both false assumptions!

I agree. Now just try and convince the trumpettes of that...

I personally don't know any that would argue with it, neither do any of the sources I would post here even though some of you would refuse to listen to them.
