mark,

a way to cheat on the "hardscape".......
crushed concrete....
packs down as well as concrete, no dust

but....
it may not pass you and/or your wife's visual requirements,
but to some it looks fine

There are permeable pavers too I was looking at but i need to ask the zoning guy what exactly counts.

I did finish recleaning what the cleaners missed and painting over the mess with an oil based sealer.....what a suck job that was! 60 gallons.......yuck

A littlt update on the actual car.

I've have it running 3 time for a few minutes each time since the fire. Start it, find something wrong, fix it, try again deal. Last night it started on some number of cylinders less then 12....6 or 8 I'm guessing until I pull the plugs. I did pull plugs from a for sure running and for sure not running cylinder and for a tan and a white plug.....I need to pull them all but it seems much closer now.

For sure the front bank was mostly not running.....looking at it this morning it looks like I never re-sync'd the TBs after the head repair and the TBs on 7-11 are closed significantly more than the rest and were probably completly closed at the throttle positions I was using (1000-2000 rpm). I'll get then all back to the same physical position and give it another go. I re-confirmed spark/fuel at every cyclinder so its probably not that.

I also need to be the CAN working in the ECU. I have a separate MAP signal for each cylinder but can't read them wihtouth getting my CAN expander working. The long term plan is to use cylinder O2 signals to trim the fuel to keep out of sync TB running good but like the check engine like and store and error code....but I need to learn how to use the flash at key off feature this ecu has to make that work right....and the engine has to actually be running to start with.

Then there is a weirdness that really worries me. I had need to turn the engine over by hand the other day and found it feels just plain weird, it moved in pops is the best way to describe it. Press, more press, MORE pressure and the engine jumps about 5-10ish degrees and stops. Repeat. Its like the timing chian is stupid tight or somehting like that....it feels awful but running I heard nothing but a dead exhaust note from the missing cylinders, no mechanical noises. Nothing odd in the compression test I did....but it feels awful turning it by hand. I really don't want to pull it apart again but.......

Surely a minor challenge compared to what you've overcome already, ahem social adjustments included =D>

Mount a degree wheel "somewhere", pull the plugs, carefully turn the crank noting when resistance increases, peaks, and diminishes - - surely a regular pattern will emerge to suggest:

Coil bound valve springs - - valve to piston interference - - a non concentric chain sprocket (or two) - - oil pump internal issues - - coolant pump - - any non original spec. revolving or reciprocating item seeking greater clearance

It WILL be obvious after analytical troubleshooting - - the clear headed alternative to that sinking stomach feeling we've all encountered :hello2:

Its about 10 degrees....not sure what that might be.

The timing chain is on a reduction drive and runs at 1/2 engine rpm with 23 teeth top and bottom (from the pic in the manual) so each toogh shoulf be about 31 degrees of crank rotation if my math is right. Probably not the timing chain.

The flywheel is 97 teeth, or just under 4 degrees...ciould still be the starter hanging and feeling something in the gear reduction starter....but its quiet when running so.....

I don't know.....

Unrelated I just made a couple changes to the way the ECU startup and coolant temp enrichment work to make it a little easier to work with. I think it will deliver the same fuel that I had set in the last start/run that seemed to work but should be smooth/better transition from crank to run. Hopefully I can give it a try today.

I can only find 11 velocity stacks after the fire. They are just temporary but still better than nothing...unless there are only 11

I think I'm going to buy a 3D printer and see if I can't make some:
https://folgertech.com/products/folger- ... rinter-kit

$500 and it does 300x300x400 which seems big enough to make lots of stuff.

plus the kids have been asking for help to customize their nerf guns....this might be just the trick to make them happy. Hopefully its not more bother than its worth.

Still LOSTS on the honey-do list but hopefuly back to trying to get this thing running right some. It didn't turn off last time I ran it so Isent the ECU out to be looked and and nothing obvious was wrong so I'm going to re-wire the relays a bit to be certain off means off. I also want to make sure the cylinder O2 stuff is working beofre next run so I don't need to guess which cylinders are giving me trouble.....and sprign will be here soon so Ineed to get this done.

Hi Mark, if you get that printer can you let me/us know how you like it? I think I'll get one as well. :)

I sure will. I'm going to buy something and was looking at some cheaper options just to give it a try but this one is pretty good size and looks decently rugged....I just need a fine blessing from Honey but I think since it really for the kids I'm good :)

No real progress to share but if anyone following wants there own V12 308 a lower hp version of what I'm building is coming to auction:

https://www.carthrottle.com/post/a-v12- ... ext-month/

I think there are 5 V12 converted cars out there. Mine and the one coming to auction use the 400 engine (or block in my case) and are both medium blue QVs which is an odd coincidence, the others are red 2V cars and use carbed 365 engines with 350ish hp so like the 400i engine are pretty tame....but that can be changed :)

I finally decided to order this:

https://folgertech.com/products/folger- ... rinter-kit

Its a kit and open source....so I'm assuming it will be a few weeks before I have it printing anything usable. The kids are excited.

Yesterday I downloaded FreeCAD and started playing with it a little....it seems to work. Not sure if there is something better out there for no/low cost CAD software?

The printer should be here tomorrow so I was reading the the manual and saw a download for CNC router...oh that's right, they are beta testing a CNC router option for the printer. This is going to be greaaaaaat! :)

Printer arrived...now lets find out if the 4th grader who really really wanted it can built it :)
Day 1, unboxing and cleanup which was about an hour (including find place on the end of the flow bench which is stacked with junk now that the ferrari heads are done) cut down to a 1:20 min clip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVfnAlF_TLc

We'll do a series or 1-2 min clips through the build for anyone who wants to see whats involved....and I'm sure we'll bugger a few things up along the way.
