I am switching from a MSD 7AL-2 ignition box to a (# 7520) digital-7 box..... I am running a #8201 MSD Pro Power Coil at this time.
Would I be better off to switch coils to a #8261, or can I stay with the #8201 coil with the new box?
TIA
What coil should I run???

Rallye Bob
Please don't use the Pro power coil, go with either a MSD 8251 or MSD 8261 coil. If you want to save some cash on the change you can snag a MSD 8251 for around $130 and be down the road. We have found the MSD 8261 coil does show a difference on the bench but it does not show up on the track or Dyno. Hope this helps you out...

Re: What coil should I run???
Thanks for the response Pat.
I did not mention in my post, that I am running a crank trigger on this build. Does this change your recommendations at all?
I am going to go with the 8261.
Thanks again....

Re: What coil should I run???
How long do those 8251 last? Mine is a few years old but is just used 7 months of the year. Should coils just be changed after so long or if everything seems ok it likely is
Re: What coil should I run???
The 8251 coils are stout pieces so they can take it. But like everything in a high energy environment we like to suggest every 3 to 4 years swap a fresh unit in. If your not in a tight class were all are hundreths away from each other than 5 to 6 years would be a good bench mark to work with.........
