Swap the milk bottle for a camelback!....congrats on the new role.
Life's too short to not run a supercharger!
Re: how old to start 'benchracing?'
Congrats.
Just hang on because it can be a wild ride!
I'm real fortunate because my son and most of my family all live just a stones throw from each other.
So even though I only have the one grandson I have nephews and even grand nephews as well as nieces, close by.
My shop is on the same property. My son is my partner. We're all sort of laid back.
Anyway as to your question..... I feel like if he's old enough to make skid marks in his pants then he's old enough to start bench racing. It may be a one sided conversation for a while but you'll be surprised how quick he'll pick it up.
My grand son, Everett, is only 5. He hangs around the shop some and just loves pushing buttons on the equipment.
When he was only three I could hold him up with his feet on the base of the Sunnen VGS20 and tell him which color button to push.
It wasn't long before he knew which button did what. The Sunnen rep called me one day and wanted to bring some people by and use my machine to demo on. When they asked how easy it was to operate, It blew their mind when I stood a 3 1/2 year old up on the machine and had him put it through it's paces.
When he's old enough, buy him a lot of Lego blocks, sit back and enjoy.
