Here is the CBN holder I made for my machine. Uses 3/8" inserts.

This is pretty slick. What type of balance work did it require?

Which direction does your SM 2000 cut?

Mine spins clockwise from the bottom and cuts right to left.

It's a Valenite tool holder. It's designed for bits with the hole in the center so I just machined the little stem off.

Question why would one choose 3/8" vs 1/2" which is better at what. I have only used 1/2" before and getting a holder/head for my machine its time to make a choice for the bit size.

My thought was, that the bit would be a little more stable in the holder, for one.
Also, the "cutting edge" has a smaller radius on the 3/8 bit. I think less of the actual bit is doing the work and keeps the cut from possibly chattering.

I want something like this for my machine. Can you post more info/pics on this? I have a post on the shop tech section on this subject also. You can see a kit just like what you made but adjustable. http://m.ebay.com/itm/151248065961?nav=SEARCH

I have been told that set up will flex too much. Anyone else have any thoughts on that ?

I was looking at doing the same thing and came to the same conclusion. Comparing it to a 1.5" iron "flywheel" it has to move or chatter a bit more if you tried to do a heavy cut. All depends on how much you want to cut at once. Place I worked at on the Rottler I could do .005-.008" without problem in aluminum, my friends Comec is worn enough that he only does .001" per pass which to me takes too much time if in a production setting.
