coil overs

Post by BurkhalterRacing »

I have a 1980 camaro that I'm building for the X275 class I'm going to a ladder bar coilover setup instead of caltracks.....I'm wanting to drop the rear of the body about 4 inches....I'm also dropping the front 4 inches...my question is how do I drop the rear 4 inches when I install the ladder bar setup?

Like for example the top bar that the top of the shocks bolt to? Do I need to weld it up higher or what?

The two ways that I can think of are:
1) change your mounting points. Raise the upper mount, or lower the mount on the rear end, or a combination of both upper and lower mounting points.

2) use a shorter spring and shock combination.

4" is a lot.

Will you have room for the ladder bar front mounts?
(they will probably be up inside the body floor)

Figure out what spring pressure you need for your car.
Then what height you want to use.

Set/level the body and rear end where you want them in relation to each other.
Then you can put the brackets where you like them.
The shocks will fill the 'void' with however you want the shock setup.
(more travel while at rest, etc)

Basically as some said, the upper mounts will be higher up in the body, or the springs/shocks will be shorter (less travel).
