power steering issues

Post by swampbuggy »

I have a 2003 Infinity G 35 sport coupe. Idling in parking conditions it has very little to no steering assist . The Infinity dealer said that it is the pump. Comments and opinions would be appreciated.

I assume you have made sure the belt is tight and the fluid level is OK.
Revving it up a little brings back the power?
If I let the tire pressure get 5 psi low the zero speed steering effort goes up noticeably on my recent daily drivers.
The cold we had in Massachusetts this year lowered the tire pressure more than that, for prolonged stretches of time.

A fluid flush has improved the power steering action on a few of my high mileage cars.
Using real Honda PS fluid corrected harder low speed steering on a 96 Accord after the Valvoline store added some regular ATF or something. That car supposedly had some electronic speed sensor that did something to boost assist at low speed, or maybe reduce assist at high speed.

It looks like there may be a steering angle sensor on some high end cars.

That is just Great news.

Didn't Charles Kettering say "the price of progress is trouble" ?
