I did find some 4.03 .027" head gaskets. That would help. Will see if Mikey has the bucks.

did the scribes show it to be square?
did you try swapping the pistons on the rods to even things out?
I'm not looking at your photo now but the low or high pistons are not on the same throw are they???
gaskets are cheaper than detonation and having to retard the spark to prevent it

The decks are not perfectly square according to the notations on block. I do like the idea of jiggling some rods for a better quench. Mikey seems to be rich and is ordering .027 gaskets. It's like a party!

It might be worth the time to swap #1 and #6 rod/piston assemblies just to see where you end up..

As it works out most of my equipment is packed for a move so my press is not here. Not very familiar with which holes will switch without poping the pistons off the rods. Thanks for your help. I think you are on the right track. With .027 gaskets and some piston placement this could work!

No need for a press if your just checking things out. Just swap the two pistons and rod assemblies together making sure the chamfer on the rod big end faces the right way. It won't matter if a piston winds up backwords for checking purposes... After swapping, check the deck heights to see if its worth your time to break out the press to perminantly move the pistons..

If you can get the quench distance down without screwing with the pistons do so
check pin bores to piston deck with some calipers
if they are different most likely you will not come up with much unless someone really screwed with the rods
are they rebuilt, caps cut etc, new bushing- no you have pressed pins
someone would have had to cut the caps very differently
if that happens you have another problem- qc of your machine shop
new bolts?

These rods were rebuilt with ford football bolts when the engine was last rebuilt in 2005. I did torque each rod and check for roundness. All where in good shape. I have had bad luck pressing off hyper pistons. I have had one crack. I wanted to use these hyper pistons so I decided not to rebuild the rods again. They should be plenty stout for this build.

I am sure I can equalize the quench a bit without taking pistons off rods and doing some test fitting and measuring. Thanks.

Some remeasuring and swapping 5/6 worked out well.

Leasson learned, do not check piston height at dusk! Better light and better measuring of heights.

Cometic mls gasket. .027 compressed thickness. Quench worked out between .0355 and .039. Which will be nice in this build.
