Saenz Flow bench

Post by cboggs »

Just a brief note, ..

I had some problems with my custom made bench and needed to keep running
as I'm fairly busy, . . . and I've looked at the Saenz flowbench Jon Jamison
offers and really liked it, .. so I bought one.
http://www.jamisonequipment.com/itemdet ... duct=10462
Jon's a pleasure to deal with.

After spending a day setting it up, . . looking through every nook & cranny
I could get to, .. and running my set of calibrated orifice plates across it, ..
I have to say I'm impressed, .. and for the cost, .. I'm really impressed.

This thing is built like a tank, .. the vacuum box where the motors are
is one of the strongest built I've seen, .. and has a bolt on, gasketed
back incase you need to service motors.

I've been known to flow at some fairly high rates, .. my plan is to
take 4 to 6 vacuum motors and build a small "booster" box that will
allow me to run 590cfm pro stock heads up to 48" on the intake.

I'm using the performance trends "black box" data box and their
port flow analyzer pro software, .. have for years.

Hey... Let me know how you like it!

"Quality" is like buying oats. You can pay a fair price for it and get some good quality oats,
or you can get it a hell of a lot cheaper, when it's already been through the horse.

We also bought one and love it. They really are quite sturdy and user friendly. Jon Jamison is a great guy and the rest of his staff is as well. My boss and I had the opportunity to talk with Domingo Saenz and his son at the last PRI and had a nice discussion with them about their product. They are also outstanding people and very concerned with the quality of their product and customer satisfaction. They also are trying to sell their dynos here and if it as good as their flowbench I would buy one in a heartbeat. Problem is we already have a superflow.

Interesting side note-Harold Bettes is now consulting for Jamison and Saenz to try to help them sell more benches!

I Love it !!!!

Curtis,

Thanks for posting regarding the bench! I've been looking at them as well, but had not heard anything regarding quality/accuracy etc.

Very nice numbers on the heads as well.

Any dyno/track numbers from an engine with the heads on it yet?

Anybody have any experience with the J-1000 flowbench? How it compares with the superflow 1020?
BTW, very nice numbers on your wedge heads Curtis :D
Care to share whose pro stock heads you're involved in?

I looked at the J-1000 before, .. but call me old fashioned, .. I like
the 600 style bench a little better. I need to have manual manometers
to make sure my electronics isn't lying to me.

Thanks for the compliments on the wedge head, .. I've always loved
small block wedge heads, . got a ton of different ports.

I'd tell you what pro stock deal, .. but they don't want me to, ..
and to be honest right now it's nobody running very well, ..
more problems then I can help with.
I do have a DRCE 3 program going, .. we'll see where it leads.
but there isn't anybody footing the bill for that, so it's slow going
while I earn a living.

I also own a Saenz Flowbench that I purchased from Jon Jamison. I bought their S-600 bench in January this year and when I calibrated it it was almost dead on. It is a nice piece and for the price you can't beat it. In my opinion the quality exceeds the Superflow benches. Jon is a great guy and has gone out of his way to help me with anything I need or to answer any questions that I might have. Hell, he even took me to breakfast a few times! Now that Harold Bettes is working with Jon I can only expect the best! Another nice thing about these flowbenches is that they have alot more capacity (9 motors to Superflows 8). I highly recommend people checking them out or giving Jon Jamison a call!

what size orfice are they now using for calibration ? I have one of these benches we bought about 3 yrs ago . it calibrated dead on for the info they gave me , but just overnight , i became a flowbench hero , LOL . I wouldnt dare give somebody those numbers, we went back and forth over it for a while, i finally just took my Superflow orfice plate , flowed it at 25" , made a correction factor to read 238 cfm, and called it a day . I almost never give numbers to anyone , and i only really judge performance based off my figures , but my figures are about 8-10% low at lowerlifts ( less than about 55% on the scale) , then seem to jive about 0.500 lift and up when comparing a known head from another bench. Its been this way for a couple yrs , but seeing this thread made me wonder again.

There's a simple solution to your problem, .. and one subject I
plan on covering at the booth at PRI, .. and I think on Thursday
Harold Bettes is doing a talk on flowbench calibration, ..

But the short course, .. get a set of calibrated orifice plates from
Bruce at PTS http://tractorsport.com/flowbenchparts.html

Then you can either call me and I can walk you through it, ..
e-mail, .. call Jon Jamison, ..

The basic deal is the calibrated plates come in a set of 3, ..
100, 200 and 300, or Bruce will make custom plates in any flow rate you want.
These are proven accurate plates that when placed on your bench
will produce a known flow, .. you simply adjust the 100% for the
range to bring it into spec.

You should check the inclined scale to make sure it's right but I already
verified the Saenz scale on my bench and assume they have them all right.
Keep in mind that the lower on the scale you go, .. and the lower
pressure you put across the orifice in the machine, the less accurate
they become. It's fairly standard to never flow below 60% on
an orifice style bench, I never do.

What software are you using ???
