432" SBF build.

432" SBF build.
This is an engine build up going into a 66 2 door falcon drag car owned by a friend of mine. I came up with an initial recipe to aim for on a reasonable budget and since that he has just waited, saved and bought the parts as they have come along at the right price, mostly unused parts being sold off from unfinished projects, a factory block, heads that went thru a blow up but came out fine with just a minor tidy. So far is all come along amazingly cheap. Patience pays off well sometimes, and in this case it certainly has for Mat !
Basically this consists of,,
-Factory 351 W block at 4.020" grout to water pump holes and main studs/girdle.
-Scat 4.25" stroke steel crank.
-Eagle 6.250" H beams w/2000 bolts.
-SRP pistons 12cc inverted dome pistons.
-AFR 220cc heads w/58cc chambers.
-Super Victor intake.
- we'll end up around 12:1 cr.
Car is around 2700lb, glide with trans brake and 30.5" tyres.
So far the block is ready for trial assy and clearancing for the big crank, heads have been flow tested , still a few parts to source up and im just about to either choose a cam or possibly just go with 1.7 rockers and use one of the 2 SR cams we have picked up along the way, both smaller than i wanted BUT they will work AND the wallet will decide ,, this is not max effort, more so max bang for a reasonable budget, race it and have fun.
I'll get some pics up when the clearancing begins! Im getting Mat to do as much of this build as he is comfortable with so he can learn and have a big hand in the build.

I've got a Lunati SR cam here if you want it Craig - 257/265 on 109, 288/296 adv, .668/.668" lift.

Paul- yes should be fun and make some nice tq, i want to put it in a streeter!
Tony- so far we have picked up 2 comp SR's 260/266@.050 , .628/.688 lift (@1.6) 297/303adv on 110.
And a 262/262@.050 ,..642/.642 net lift cant remember the rest. (Possibly 295/301adv on 108 if memory serves!)
Im currently leaning toward 1.7 rockers on the latter cam, at least on the intake, he has no rocker gear yet so this is the most cost effective way for us to get more lift. This will net us around .683" lift.

If you feel like doing the spanner work you can take all 3 cams to the dyno, this one is just gathering dust!
But methinks #1 cam with 1.7/1.6 rockers will be the winner.

Thanks Tony, we will put this on the dyno and hey if we're feeling energetic at the time then a couple of cam swaps could well happen. So we may well call on that cam!

Flow came in at,,
.100 - 67 in / 55ex
.200- 139in / 102 ex
.300- 204 in / 144 ex
.400- 251in / 181 ex
.500- 274 in / 200 ex
.550- 281 in / 206 ex
.600- 287 in /210 ex
.650- 293in / 215ex
.700- 300in / 216ex
.750- 306in / 217 ex
.800- 312 in
.850- .315 in
We might flow again with the intake on just for interest sake but wont be doing any head work at this point in time.

Re: 432" SBF build.
Be careful the bottom of the Pistons (beneath the pin boss) doesn't hit the crank counterweights at bdc, and also the big end of the rod doesn't hit the cam lobes. Just some obstacles I had during assembly on a different (but similar) combo.

Thankyou, and yes it will be carefully clearance checked everywhere. 6.250" rod.
329582 SRP @ BDC, .120" of pin below bottom of bore, nominal average of .300" of skirt below bottom of bore (skirt length is 1.09")

Your camshafts are all very small for that many inches- On the other hand, if you make over 700 HP. the block will break

Hi Joe, final cam choice is not from the initial ones i posted.
Here is what I decided on given constraint of stock block , parts budget, main purpose is drag and some limited display cruises at our Red Center Nats. Camtech circle track lobe with 1.6 rockers.
This is not a max effort build, just a collection of decent parts that all came up at a very good price over a long period of time. A good fun budget bang for buck build, the owner is well aware of the block situation so all good.
