Yeah, it had nothing to do with natural gas being cheaper.Look what happened to burning coal! The politicians (using the EPA as a tool) have deliberately screwed the coal industry so that money can be funneled into the proper pockets.
Co-gen natural gas plants are more efficient, you don't need a rail yard or barge area to unload it, you don't need to store it, you don't need to mill it before it goes into the boiler, and you don't have large piles of refuse to deal with. Co-gen gas plants take up a way smaller foot print, are less maintenance, and don't need all the aforementioned infrastructure to deal with it.
"save coal!" ... places regulations on natural gas production and provides MORE subsidies to the coal industry .... "save natural gas!".... "Uh...It's Obama's fault! GArrrghhhhhh"
Yes. Exactly.John Wallace wrote:Wouldn't this apply to the oil industry also?"Hybrid cars, like solar and wind power wouldn't exist without TAXPAYER subsidies."
(and probably coal)
Good for Volvo. I'm excited to see how this turns out.
Diesel / gas electric hybrids have been around forever at this point in industrial applications. I don't think their market are the knuckle draggers on this forum anyway. It was this site afterall where several people were spouting off how DI was going to result in gas explosions in accidents due to the high pressure in the fuel rails.

Too bad. Up until 1999, I would have liked to have had a new Volvo.Volvo going Hybrid or Electric Only
First the sale to Ford, then to the ChiComs. And now this...... Last nail in the coffin of a once great motor car. Very sad.
RIP, Volvo......

What most people fail to realize is that every electric vehicle needs some recharging ability from being connected to a smoke stack somewhere.statsystems wrote:The same fools who think electric power is "cleaner" think solar power is also "cleaner". Neither is true. Both are economically stupid and very foul environmentally. You may think you've reduced your carbon footprint is less with electric it isn't. BTW carbon is a good thing.
Haven't locomotive train engines been in the hybrid family for over 70 years...?

It's funny that the RR's can buy slave engines that have say up to four Gen-sets mounted on them to use as yard engines to get away from the one road engine they generally use now. When not operating it, they can cut say three of the four gen-sets off and idle on the one until they need to work it.Walter R. BUT the assholes won't spend their own money to use this newer technology! I figure that they probably want it to be subsidized by us TAXPAYERS!!!
I do understand it though because they can continually to rebuild the road engines up until CHRIST come's back!!
