At least you see some possibilities here for this.

Thanks,

In an ideal environment...yes.
In the real world...forget it.

Ain't that the truth!

As a piston manufacturer I used to say that the ceramic lifter was our best customer, I think lofting was the problem on those very fast ramp Stock Eliminator camshafts. Ceramic particles imbedded in piston skirts and ring grooves and probably cam bearings and crankshafts wasn't a good thing. I'm sure that Camking can verify that.

Another idea for that lifter previously posted with the solid wheel. As I said earlier one side of the lifter include a partial wall so as to retain the roller and the other side a removable wall section. Drill the roller to lighten it. Possible advantage in hardening, I don't know much about processing. Now the removable wall include a pin, small enough so as NOT to contact the wheel EXCEPT if the lifter floats, the pin would act as the roller retainer.

Advantages, never any real roller/pin contact/wear. Possibly much lighter roller/easier to roll, less inertia, possibly less likely to skate.

As the original design pressure fed oiling to the body/roller contact area, adequate oiling may only have contact during initial start-up then riding the oil.

Possible? Maybe.

The only possibility for this design should be that it NEVER returns from the trash ever again.

And just where have you seen this type design to make a statement like that?

Who made them? And so on and so forth.....

I would suspect he's basing his statement on what Mike Jones said: "I don't think any other lifters, in the history of lifters, destroyed as many engines as the Schubeck lifters."
I would think Mike would know.
I should also mention I talked to Joe Schubeck by phone about these some 15 years ago.
He was nothing but a gentleman.
It does seem that not all good intentions pan out however.

Then back up here and make the roller out of something like tool steel instead of ceramic. As for that, it probably would cost too much, but make the complete lifter out of tool steel. Or whatever is a step up from what lifters are presently made out of.

Might even DLC it for max. wear resistance. I know, too much money?

Cmon, lets be practical here. Take a look at it - a non-captive floating element in an environment like that. tight lash or not... that means some trouble should it shift even the slightest amount due to vibration, debris or any misalignment... taking the rest of an engine with it on the way out.

Its bad enough when a roller lifter turns in its bore and wrecks a camshaft.
