Remflex header gaskets ??
Anyone use these super sealing graphite header to head gaskets?
A friend needs to replace the gaskets on his 460 Ford powered Cobra. He only wants to do this one more time and from what I read these are
a flexible 1/8 inch thick graphite type gasket with 50% of crush and will not burn or blow out.

I use the remflex gaskets. It's about all I use anymore. They work and work well. I have never been able to reuse them though. I've tried using never seize on them to help them not stick but it didn't work.
Other than not being able to reuse them, they are worth the money IMO.

X2,use them on my Pontiac .They are a little fragil,if you bend them they can break.Tom

Any of the graphite header gaskets work very well, as long as sealing surfaces are clean and dry; bolts are tightened in correct sequence and the bolts remain tight. So not use any sealer goop on them. Header gaskets are not designed to be reused - install new gaskets if the headers need to be removed . . . . . .

First gasket I found that wouldn't blow out on the bottom in the center ports on my Olds engines. PITA to install on one side with my particular engine due to tube routing and bolt location but worth it. They totally self destruct when you remove them so no reusing for sure but again, worth the trade off.

Only gasket i use on my twin turbo car. 30 psi boost and never had an issue

The graphite header gaskets are the ones I use. Copper permatex rtv.
The best gaskets i ever used prior to rtv were victor nitro seals, they are very sturdy and hold up well but i won't ever go back to gaskets.
RTV- never leaks and any time i check the bolts they are tight whereas with gaskets seemed like i snugged them up often.

I like two types of header gaskets and one type of sealing surface:
Sealing surface- a clean straight flat header flange or manifold with at least a 3/8" and best even a 1/2" thick flange ! If its not clean, straight and strong sealing exhausts at the head is a loosing battle.
Header gaskets for race type engines that have to come on and off a lot - a MLS stainless exhaust gasket like Cometics or a good quality dead soft copper gasket.
Header gaskets for engines where they are going on and hopefully outliving the engine or rebuild the Remflex are good and so are the MLS type with some thin coated good Hi-temp RTV.
Last but not least a great set of quality header studs or bolts that can really be tightened and retightened well and if stainless are used in aluminum heads a small amount of anti-seize on the threads so they will come out in the future.
Success is in the methods and details not always in the products.

I use copper with permatex also, do not have leaks and they are reusable.
