Im not suggesting you build this setup for street, merely showing the longevity of flat tappet and hp potential. Ive had very good success with solid flat tappet.

Friend of mine got fed up with intermittent lifter noise from his HR roller cam, so bought some sol roller lifters. Runs the lash tight, about 0.006" hot. Idles better, performs better, couldn't be happier...

I asked UDHarold for a small solid lifter cam and he told me to buy onna his 272, maybe 274(?) hy-cams and install solid lifters on it and run it tight lash! Like as said, .004" to .006" hot lash and go.

He went on to say that the Ford, "roundy-round", guys did it fine!

I miss Harold!

We just did a hyd flat tappet Cleveland on dyno that had problems with hyd leak down. I talked to supplier and they've been plagued with leak down issues on both hyd flat and roller lifters. He said they are not going to stock them anymore. We put solids in and set to .006 and it runs like swiss watch now!
