Thats the simplest way with any big duration cam to make sure you're not near the lobe ramp when you adjust.

The EOIC approach works for any four stroke poppet valve engine.

Exactly, on small cam stuff i simply adjust at tdc on comp stroke, quick simple and fine for shorter duration but not as foolproof on big duration lobes as eoic way.

If the piston is at T.D.C. on the compression stroke, both valves are closed.

True, but unless the engine has a degreed and clearly visible damper, it's easier to reference the adjacent rocker. (plus you don't have to keep dodging back and forth from viewing the damper position to accessing the rocker)
