Don't cut well ported 292's too much slack. They ran hard for what they are. If they are well done they will beat most 200 runner heads out of the box.

This is also very true. They went crazy fast for their size and age. So many newer heads are so wrong out of the box

Thanks for the replies.The iron 292 heads that I had ported were ported to the max and I was wondering if a 200 cc aluminum head is going to be big enough.The heads are were ported extensively, and I want to get a cylinder head as close to these without all of work.As the pushrod pinch area I will put more material(weld) to get the intake port wider , the iron heads that I have are opened up a lot.I know that this 331 motor loved a lot of RPM and with my car weight of 2300+ lbs 9.67 @138 mph is not too bad for a home built motor. Max ported 292 heads without brazing or epoxy can not even get much bigger than 198 cc's.

Thanks for the replies.Yes the 292 heads that I have had the dimple in the combustion chambers welded and a sleeve was pressed in the head between the two intake ports and the intake runners were ported to these sleeves.Intake ports were widened and epoxy was used to fill what was ground out.If you can get ahold of the book by bill Jenkins Racing the Chevrolet Engine these heads that I have are very close to what he ran back in the day.I probably will try to buy a burett and measure the intake volume. Chad Speier should be on your list to call. He can size a set of heads for the RPM range you plan to run it in.

Speier Racing Heads should be at the TOP of your list! Chad has some killer heads! I have owned a set for 7 years and have just ordered a new and badder set. I will run ONLY Speier Racing Heads! My last 11.1 383 sbc went 10.75 @ 125 @3200lbs on pumpgas. THANKS CHAD!

I called Pro Maxx on their 225 CNC aluminum heads and they gave me the flow#'s as : 500 liftr 296 int 205 ex
600 316 int 225 ex
700 319 int 238 ex
800 326 int 238 ex 2.08 int 1.60 ex valve of
so I am still doing more thinking and asking questions, but I want to know how these heads flow compared to the 292 heads that I have as I plan to reuse the 2.05 5/16 int valves and the same size ex valves as per the above flow#'s.What would you think on how the reworked 292 iron heads would compare to the cnc pro maxx aluminum heads?? If you are buying heads looking at flow#s you are missing the bigger picture.

Your wasting time asking these open ended questions, buy a plastic burette, measure your port c/l and pay 40-50 bucks to get a port or two tested, after that and some other dimensions in the port you can make some educated decisions, my guess is they are around 290-300, where in the port those numbers are made can be two entirely different performing heads

I can make a sewer pipe flow 2000 cfm. Question is where is it going and what is the velocity/port speed. Large cfm is not the way to select any head without knowing the other questions. AND ProMax is on crack with those flow#s.

The truth is almost all are cast in China and every where but here.
