Laser finishing

Post by BOOT »

Is this a thing? I've read when polishing rods to do it longitudinal and in another thread I considered it for micro shaping a pushrod longitudinal.

FWIW, polishing rods, cranks, has been around forever and it's among the many old school processes difficult to quantify. I did it for twenty-five years and haven't done it for the last twenty-five - no noticeable difference, other than I have more time to spend chasing equally difficult-to-quantify processes.

Similar but different, relieving flathead blocks was SOP for a hunnerd years and finally someone took the trouble to flow bench and guess what? Doesn't help.

Something like that wondered if lasers were being used to treat surface for strength in anyway.
