What kind of driving/racing will you be doing and how do you feel about high lift/high maintenance valve gear vs. many, many worry-free miles?

I have a H/R 242-254@.050 .600 lift and a set of OOTB vic Jrs on it now. Go to the track 5-10 times a year. Drive around town less than 1,000 miles a year. The high lift maintenance is not a problem.

You don't need a lot of duration for a 6500 rpm peak.

I have ran this exact combo on the dyno.

I'd be at 254/258 @ .050", 290/294 adv, .672"/.672" on a 1.6 RR, 108 LSA on a 108 ICL.

Billet steel core, standard base circle. Wouldn't be a spring eater, easy on valve train.

If that 290/294 is at .020", that's basically just an under-area'd version of what I recommended, but on a 108.
My recommendation is 292/292 @.020".
He wouldn't be giving up any torque, would make more HP, and it's easy on the valvetrain.

You're about 20,000 dyno pulls short of being able to make that assumption.

There's no "Maybe" about it. My recommendation would put 20hp over that lazy cam you recommended.

Hey, let’s all just be jerks today.

For one thing, you don’t know how many dyno pulls I have made.

The second thing is that I’m getting real sick and tired of “cam grinders” thinking that just because they come up with it it’s the best thing in the world. I’ll be the first to tell you that theory doesn’t always equal reality.

So I take it from your response that you’ve dynod an engine exactly like the OP has, with your recommendation and then a cam exactly like I recommended as well? Because that should be the only reason why you should come on here and show your ego like you did.

Maybe we should each grind it and send it to him. The only way you learn is to try stuff back to back. Way too often do people just buy one camshaft and are totally happy with it, not realizing that there is actually something out there much better.

I am confident in what I posted, but there is no way that I’m stupid enough to think that every cam I spec is the absolute best choice for a customer, or foolish enough to belittle someone else’s experience level over a discussion.

Wow, someone if feeling a little big for their britches today.
Settle down. You don't have 1/100th of the knowledge or experience I have. It's not even debatable.
Your overwhelming arrogance is why I stopped trying to help you a few years ago. You're just too smart to listen.

No sir, I'm not feeling big for my britches. I certainly didn't come in here shooting off both barrels, aiming at everyone else's experience levels. Remember, you're the one that singled my post out. I didn't take a shot at yours.

So my overwhelming arrogance is why you stopped helping me years ago? Did you forget that you sold me a camshaft this year?

Does this look like I have overwhelming arrogance to anyone else out there?

Subject: Need recommendation and price.....

Mike, hope you're staying busy and doing well.

I have a 434 inch Clevor that I built for a drag race customer. He
doesn't have the car sorted out entirely yet but has already made plans
to spray for next year and wants to get parts here for when it comes
back for a freshen-up this fall.

Current camshaft is a custom Comp piece, 261/273 @ .050", 112 LSA on a
110, .471"/.471" lobe lift, running 1.8 T&D race rockers.

On the dyno here, it made 777 hp @ 7000, 630 lb-ft @ 5500.

*4.155 x 4.000, with a 6" rod
*55mm on all 5 journals, roller cam bearings
*.904" lifter bores
*Heads are CHI 3V heads, about 245cc intake port volume. 2.250"
intake/1.710" exhaust.
*Intake flow is: 212 @ .300, 276 @ .400, 320 @ .500, 347 @ .600, 373 @
.700, 384 @ .800, 391 @ .900
*Exhaust flow is: 160 @ .300, 199 @ .400, 225 @ .500, 245 @ .600, 256 @
.700, 265 @ .800, 275 @ .900
*Compression ratio is 13.5:1
*Intake is a CHI 3V 225 cc intake, ported, with a 2" Super Sucker 4150
to 4500 adapter, with a 1100 cfm Dominator
*It is a vacuum pump motor
*Running a Powerglide with a 1.58 1st gear and a 5500 stall.
*Vehicle weighs 3000 lbs with driver ('69 Mustang)
*Running VP C12 fuel
*Headers are 2.125" diameter
*Running 1.550 Manley Nextek springs, 300 seat with 800 open.

Here's what we are going to change and what we'll need another camshaft for:

*Going from 13.5:1 to 14.5:1
*Adding 400 hp worth of spray
*Changing intake from current to a CHI 3V intake, ported, but with a
4500 flange. No adapter spacer.

I bought an additional camshaft last year when I built the engine to try
on the dyno, but with it making almost 780 hp, we decided to not try
it. His previous engine was a 575 hp 408C and with an all new
chassis/suspension, we weren't looking to optimize the combo. The cam
I have on the shelf is a custom with Comp HXL lobes, 272/280 @ .050",
with .800" gross lift, on a 108 LSA.

Thanks for your help.
