Has anybody got one of the Moroso extension kits lying around with a spare mounting stud? In Moroso's infinite wisdom the stud they supply in these kits has a slight kink/bend in the middle.....the mounting block and oil pump will not line up with the rear cap unless the bent stud is used......doh
Yes, I managed to lose mine.....could probably use one from a longer extension kit as well....

I found this discussion on ST a few years back.....

You'll see what I mean by the offset stud if you scroll down....

Might have to heat n bend your own out of threaded rod if you can't find one.

I know as much as I can learn and try to keep an open mind to anything!
If I didn't overthink stuff I wouldn't be on speedtalk!

I initially used a mid length head stud - that's when I found out Moroso made them offset.......still can't get my head around why they did that....yes, I realise the pump driveshaft needs to line up....
As far as heating an ARP head stud and bending it, does anybody have input on what this will do to the tensile strength?

My advise is extend the oil pickup-NOT THE PUMP!

Re: Moroso Oil Pump extension kits - mounting stud?
I think the idea was it's easier to pump/prime with the pump being lower. I rem reading bout these extensions awhile back and thought it was a decent idea, if you look at the melling billet pumps they are kinda a in-between option. Only down side I'd see is that the pump could vibrate more as it's farther out. I'd chalk this up as something that might of been better but failed due to ease of installation/adaptation of the tube pick-ups.
edit: and of course the need for a longer pump driveshaft

the pump is still in the same place in the oil just the sump is deeper and the pickup longerBOOT wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 2:52 pmI think the idea was it's easier to pump/prime with the pump being lower. Re: Moroso Oil Pump extension kits - mounting stud?
X2!! I used several of the Moroso oil pump extensions when they first developed them in the mid 70's. Extending the pump into a deepened oil pan IS better than extending the pickup tube from the pump - in a perfect world (the pump is more efficient in pushing the oil, rather than pulling it). BUT Chevrolet V-8 oil pumps don't attach to the rear main cap in a perfect 90 degree angle to the crankshaft centerline, therefore the mounting surfaces on the extension block are not perfectly flat and must be attached with the odd-shaped mounting studs.
If it is necessary to get the pump closer to the oil, then it is better to extend the pickup tube, rather than trying to drop the oil pump down closer to the oil.
