I bought new, an '87 Chevy Sprint ER/Suzuki Swift 3-banger 2-dr hatch car for $6,300 back then.
Sucker got 50 mph driving 75 mph on the hwy, end of conversation. It weighed 1,507 pounds. Check EPA's historical CAFE standards information and driving it's slow speed loop, the '87 Chevy Sprint ER got at least 71 mpg!!!!
Next I bought new a 2000 3-banger metro 2-dr hatch that weighed 1950 pounds w/ A/C that I never used!
It got 50 mpg on the same hwys running 58 to 62 mph!!
Funny thing about this is that GM own's the 3-banger engine and Suzuki sold every frigging one they built!
All over the world THEY ALL can build cheap, quality high gas mileage commuter corn-popper cars for those of us that want to buy them but hell no, GM ain't gonna do it as they continue to suck on our GOV's hind tit as you and I foot the bill.
I will NEVER buy anything GM again!!!
