My understanding is most or lift limited and use a lot of duration but loft the cam to compensate for lift limit.steve cowan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 9:25 pm Thanks Chad,
I for one am amazed by this and I thought more questions would of been asked, I am confident to say that it is the whole package that contributes to power these engines make but you still have to make it work,
Chad does the high lift flow peak earlier in the valve lift and carry out to high lift or is it a % of flow per lift that these heads respond to, from memory I think I read where stockers use a decent amount of lift and duration and must have to carry way past peak rpm but I would think the avg CSA would be the choke at very high rpm

Ex-pro stock driver Greg Stanfield and his son, Aaron run a 3rd gen super stocker. I had seen it at our local track for a long time and didn't know it was them. Their shop is around here somewhere. I'm not exactly sure what engine is in it. Last I knew, it ran high/mid 9's...9.6xx'sSpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 4:42 pmThanks!
Carnut1, thought you would get a kick out of this. This right here is my wheelhouse, I'm old school to the end.

You can tell by the tachometer it makes nice torque. Stock heads only flow 200cfm. I hope you chassis dyno this one before you slip in a new bullet.

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
I'm really not sure what I should do. I'm sure it's making good power. I would guess 450 at the flywheel. The problem is with the OEM computer and MAF sensor is worth about 500.. So getting lots more is going to take mods to the car and I don't want that.
I bet I couldn't get $4K out of the complete engine. The TPiS stuff was over $2K alone.

Just repin to the 91-92 730 ecm and map sensor. Its not too terrible of a job and eliminates the maf
But i dont think the maf is that bad of a system. Blowerworks.net can set you up with a larger latemodel style maf. Havent used them but the guy knows what hes doing
Speed density is the way to go tho

That is what I did with my 1989 Trans Am. I also changed out the processor to the 1990 model. 420+RWHP through a 4L60E.Orr89rocz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 1:52 pm Just repin to the 91-92 730 ecm and map sensor. Its not too terrible of a job and eliminates the maf

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Charlie and guys, started on a new set of heads for the IROC.
Going to do them in Super Stock form. Should be killer for a 6000 RPM street engine!

I like the raised oval roof and filling the floor. Will these go on the short block that is in the car now with the mini ram? Can you widen that pinch anymore? Looks tight and fast. Thanks for sharing and let us know what you are thinking.

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
It's 2.25 at the pinch now. The shortblock is just stock L98. Thinking I need something better. Probably just sell the shortblock.
Yes going to use the mini ram.
It's a 195cc Pro-Filer. Going to use a LS 8mm valve and LS roller springs.
Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
Nice, go decent 383 at least. Pinch doesn't look that big but I am not doubting you. I do like that Profiler casting. Are you sure you want to limit it to 6000 rpm? The cam you have will do 7000 rpm no issues. Just thinking out loud. Thanks, Charlie

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project
I want to do it with the stock ECM. I'm working with Jim at TPiS. He says the stock components and a created chip is good for 500hp. That is plenty good for what I want. This head is already bigger than what is on it and it easily goes past 6000 and it's a HYD roller. I'm going full roller this time. I will size everything for 6500ish.

Thats how mine start out... I just never finish themSpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 6:49 pm Charlie and guys, started on a new set of heads for the IROC.
