If you've got header choice, small diameter tri-y with a 2" final choke maximum. Expand it after that to whatever, but you can fit 400hp through a pair of 2" chokes without restriction unless you've really messed up before that (by starting too big, usually)… and even if it *was* restrictive, it's going to help low end all the time you're driving while only costing you marginal top end occasionally.

if it were me, 418" windsor, afr 165s, and a decent dual plane intake would make a ton of tq. the bad thing about a 393 is, by the time you balance that short counterweight 3.85" stroke crank for the short 5.956 windsor rod and heavy stock 302 piston, you have enough in the rotator to buy a cast 408/418 rotator that is already balanced to 28oz. clean up the stock block and go. make sure to mic the crank journals because sometimes youll get one that has high spots.

I think the way we are going to go is stroke it good heads and get a cam from Mike.

Is it the 8.2 deck block? You can punch it out to 355 with a 3.500 stroke and 1.055 ch pistons but I think those are hard to balance.
